Engaging remotely

As New Zealand entered the level 4 lockdown period and as teachers we were making preparations for many weeks of remote teaching and learning, team 1 reflected on the value of including Engage lessons within our remote learning curriculum.

At a time of high stress within our community we see the Engage strategies and games as important to help our tamariki find some calm, and a touchpoint with familiar routines.  I have included on my home learning slides the resources (songs, and clips) I use as a support to the engage games within our classroom.  The students are familiar with these and understand the terminology we use as cues to emotional and physical regulation.

As we progress along this home learning journey I will add further resources and personal introductions to the learning which echo the familiar language of engage.

The benefit of this time is that parents will have some exposure to the programme too, and hopefully will be able to see the positive impact it has for their tamariki.
