Term 2 Inquiry Update:
Team 1 got together at the start of Term 2 to discuss our experiences with using the Vosaic tool.
We discussed the importance of effective questioning to encourage our target students to think more deeply about the texts they are reading.
Khismira shared that she had done an awesome piece of work with the BSLA texts we are using in our Structured Literacy lessons. By harnessing AI to make some suggestions for specific open-ended questions which were tailored to specific texts. She was then able to use these questions in her planning documents. As a team we were all excited to trial using these in our own reading lessons. I am planning to video a lesson using these questions and assess the lesson with the vosaic tool.
This is an example of the questions for the text Mud, Mud, Mud
Retelling/Comprehension/ Inferencing
✅ Comprehension Questions (checking understanding of what is directly in the text):
Where is the mud?
Who has mud on them?
What is used to clean the mud?
What two things are repeated in the story? (e.g., mud and mop)
🔍 Inferencing Questions (reading between the lines, making guesses using clues):
How do you think the mud got on the mat, bed, Sam, and Meg?
Who do you think brought the mud into the house?
What do you think happened just before the story started?
Why do you think someone is mopping the mud?
Do you think Sam and Meg are happy or sad about the mud? Why?
💬 Open-Ended Questions (encourage imagination and deeper thinking):
What would you do if there was mud all over your bed?
Have you ever gotten muddy like Sam or Meg? What happened?
What could Sam and Meg do next to help clean up?
What would happen if no one cleaned up the mud?
What do you think might happen after the story ends?
