2025 Teaching as Inquiry - Developing Comprehension skills in New Entrant readers. Data collection.

As part of my continuing inquiry into the comprehension skills of my target students I have been focussed this term on the collection of evidence of the effectiveness of my inquiry methodology.

My first step was to collate the baseline data which I collected at the beginning of the school year.  This data was collected at the time of school entry within the BSLA assessment tool.  Children are read a story and then asked to retell the story using image prompts.  They are then asked 5 comprehension questions with points awarded based on the detail and accuracy of their answers.  The following data is the results of my target students.
