Leading from the middle

Effective practice requires the use of evidence while also focussing on solutions to ensure that all proposals align with whole school priorities.Leadership as a LSC is about shaping systems, not controlling them. Influence happens through alignment, being clear on what is good learning support, analysing data, and building trusting relationships.


As a LSC, your role sits at the intersection of:

  • systems

  • relationships

  • capability building

  • cultural responsiveness

  • learner wellbeing and achievement.

Your forward planning should aim to intentionally align your practice with:

  • the LSC Skills Matrix

  • the strategic goals of your school

  • the needs and cultural identities of your learners and whānau

  • the people on your Stakeholder Map.
