KPMG Hui - May - A new viewpoint
This week saw the MIT-22 crew come together once again in the Auckland corporate offices of KPMG.
As this photo illustrates the lunchtime views were vastly different from the child filled playgrounds we are used to. However the change in physical outlook not only meant for a more relaxed break, but also the opportunity to take a look at our prototype designs from a different perspective.
Each MIT team member was challenged to consider how we could engage with all the tools under design, in our own teaching spaces and with our diverse learners. This was an interesting exercise as it really got to the core of what the goals are for our tools. For example Anusha's tool designed for NCEA statistics students had at its heart a desire to connect learners and teachers by the sharing personal stories. Something that is just as important in my NE classroom and a foundation of Te Kotahitanga Effective teaching.
We were generously hosted by KPMG National Corporate Citizenship Senior Manager, Justine Todd, who shared manaakitanga and her perspective on our projects. It was wonderful to hear her valuable feedback and get the clarity needed when discussing educational matters with a professional from a different industry. Often as teachers we can fall down the acronym rabbit hole!
For me the day was an important milestone on the journey to create an effective tool. I sought advice and support from Dorothy, Matt and the rest of the team. I presented my assessment tool and my new idea to directly link intervention suggestions to the assessment tool. Matt provided advice for linking it into my existing website and this is what I will be now working on. Till we meet again... thanks for the advice team.
