The arrival of term 2 has seen me return to my new entrant classroom.  It's great to be back with our newest students and has allowed me to get to grips with the opportunities to improve NE oral language.

I have began this term working on developing a website to provide resources for teachers to help them raise the oral language level of their learners.  The website provides an explicit link between shared reading,  student/teacher authored texts, and play provocations.

I intend to use this website to record teacher gifted language - vocabulary particular to the shared texts.  I have decided after some trial and error, to introduce 2 texts per week.  Each text is read on two consecutive days.  This allows the students to have multiple opportunities to engage with story specific language and to get an idea of the narrative structure.  It also gives me as the teacher more chances to use the CROWD prompts of dialogic reading.

The website will also provide examples of play provocations which invite the learners to build narratives and use language they have been exposed to during shared reading.  It is my theory that this oral language can be recorded using student authored texts.  These are texts which the students dictate to me, prompted by images of themselves playing.
